Railroad Track Leveler

Railroad Track Leveler

Missouri, Route 65

March 18, 2004

I was stalled at a railroad crossing for a few minutes while this track leveler worked its way accross. I had no idea such a thing existed, it looks like this machine reads the irregularities in the track then lifts the rails slightly and a set of pincers dig around each tie raising it to the appropriate height by jamming more rocks underneath. I'm intrigued - does anyone know any more details on this?
